Sam Fox at the M Club in Belfast - Peter O'Hara Photographer

Belfast is a fun city, with some great bars, restaurants and coffee houses, clubs and discos.
Drop into Roscoff's Cafe in Fountain Street for coffee and cakes, or try Nick's Warehouse for a lunch (35-39 Hill St. in the Cathedral quarter). They're also open at night, and it's best to book. Tel: 028 9043 9690.
Doorsteps at 455 Lisburn Road make sandwiches to queue for, but you can sit down and have a coffee while you're waiting. For delivery tel: 028 9068 1645.
At night, for pizzas and atmosphere, go to Green's Pizza also on the Lisburn Road. The're not licensed, so bring your own wine (there is a wine shop opposite). You can't book, but they give you a bleeper to take across the road to the Chelsea Bar, where you can have a drink until a table is available. The Chelsea also do good food, for lunch or dinner, and Sunday brunch when the eggs benedict is worth a try.
Villa Italia at 41 University Road, Giraffe at 54 Stranmillis Road, and the old favourite Frogaties at Shaftsbury Square, don't take bookings either, but are good value and often worth the wait.

For fine dining Deans Restaurant, 36 Howard St. in the city centre must be worth a visit. Tel: 028 9033 1134 (Tues-Sat). Paul and Jeanne Rankin of television fame have Cayenne, 7 Lesley House, Shaftsbury Square. Tel: 028 9033 1532. For Indian try The Jharna, 133 Lisburn Road. Tel: 028 9038 1299.

There are plenty of bars to choose from. There is a fairly young crowd in the new Parlour Bar, in Elmwood Ave where you can get a pint and a pizza. Benedicts at Shaftsbury Square is a hot spot, next to the M Club. The Fly just off University Road is also a popular venue, and down by the Albert clock, McHugh's pulls in the revellers, with music at the weekend. For traditional music go to Pat's Bar in the Clarendon Dock area, and close by there is the Rotterdam Bar, where there is also live bands.
