You must take a tour
of the Royal Pavillion, the India inspired palace that so epitomises
Brighton frivolity. While you are there, take a break in the upstairs cafe,
and enjoy tea and cakes in elegant surroundings.
For lunch, try English's Oyster Bar, in The Lanes - for the restaurant
you may want to book. Tel. 01273 327980. From old to new, go to Surfers@Paradise,
a cyberspace cafe, might also put you in the mood for the seaside, at 18 Bond Street.
Donatello, also in The Lanes, is a popular Italian eatery, and a good venue
for pizza and other Italian fare, and good value as well. Tel. 01273 775477. You would
need to make a reservation for Terra a Terre, a restaurant famous for its vegetarian
dishes, at 71 East St. Tel. 01273 729051.
There are plenty of pubs, but while you're in The Lanes, try the Font & Firkin,
in Union St. For Regency style which is so Brighton, go to The Regency, Russell
Square. The bar and club scene is busy, so have a look at the notices to see what's on.
The Jazz Palace, at 10 Ship St., could be for you, or try Zap, at King's
Road Arches.
To telephone Brighton from abroad, dial your international
access code, then 44, and miss out the first zero of the number.
