Three miles
south of Glasgow, in Pollok Country Park, you'll find the Burrell Collection.
Absolutely well worth a visit, and while there you can enjoy lunch in
the refreshing cafe.
If you are back in the centre of Glasgow, take tea in the Willow Tearoom,
217 Sauchiehall Street, in the art deco surroundings originally designed
by Charles Rennie Mackintosh. If there is a queue you may prefer to try The
Jenny, 18 Royal Exchange Square, where in good weather you can enjoy
coffee and snacks al fresco. For a late night (or early morning!) the Insomnia
Cafe, 38 Woodland Road, never closes.
Janssens Cafe-Restaurant in Argyle Street, Tel: 0141 334 9682 is a relaxing
place for good food, or you may try the stylish Yes, 22 West Nile Street, Tel:
0141 221 8044, for that special evening out. Also in the West End is The
Ubiquitous Chip on Ashton Lane, Tel: 0141 334 5007, where you can find
excellent Scottish cuisine.
Pub music can be found at the Halt Bar, 160 Woodlands Road, a popular venue
with good atmosphere. Another West End favourite is Uisge Beatha, where
you can take a wee dram in one of the friendly bars. For real ale fans, Babbity
Bowster at 16 Blackfriars Street in the city centre, is a good choice, or The
Horse Shoe, at 17 Drury Lane. Stylishly popular is Bar 10, a cafe-bar
off Buchanan Street.
There is a big club scene in Glasgow, and the place to be might often change.
Have a look at 'The List' for the latest places, or at weekends, try Arches, under
Central Station, or the stylish The Tunnel, a West End Club.
To telephone Glasgow from abroad, dial your international
access code, then 44, and miss out the first zero of the number.
