After your trip
across the Mersey on the famed Ferry, head on to the Albert Dock,
the dockside development that converted the massive Victorian warehouses into
a first rate tourist attraction, with shops, cafes, museums and art galleries.
The Tate Gallery has a cafe bar, Taste, with dockside seats if
you prefer al-fresco. Est Est Est is also in the Albert Dock complex,
and is a good choice for lunch.
At 29a Hope Street, you'll find Becher's Brook, a stylish restaurant with
British cooking to match Tel. 0151 707 0005. In the centre of the town is Armadillo,
at 31 Mathew Street Tel. 0151 236 4123, where Mediterranean cuisine can be enjoyed
close to where the Beatles started out. Nearby, in Stanley Street is the popular
Casa Italia, a good place for a pizza.
There are lots of pubs to choose from, but the Philharmonic Dining Room
(the Phil), in Hope Street, has to be worth a visit. For a touch of Beatles
nostalgia, go to the Cavern Pub in Mathew Street, or call into Vines
on Lime Street, where Maggie May may have plied her wares! For something
more trendy, go to Blue at the Albert Dock.
They do know how to party in Liverpool, and the Pubs and Clubs are a testament
to this. Probably best known of all is the club Cream, off Parr Street.
